“Her Stories” focuses on the strength, wisdom and perseverance of the female human spirit. Sources are varied and include a female shaman from an extinct tribe, wives of Italian fishermen, and a heroine’s tales from India among many others.

Each artist will deconstruct the actual events and reinterpret them through their individual medium: painting, video, music, poetry, drawing, sculpture, dance, spoken word, photography.

Atlantic Gallery  Dialogues  January 2016

 I was invited by Ruby Silvious to participate in this exhibition at the Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea. My work on the left was chosen to respond to her print, on the right.

Ruby Silvious and Mimi Czajka Graminski are showing works inspired directly or indirectly by a recent Matisse exhibition. The connection was an indirect one stemming from the images stored in the subconscious. Both artists were influenced by the cutouts of Matisse but they took that inspiration in different directions. Silvious’ forms, while abstract, have references to Matisse’s botanical shapes. Graminski’s are also undulating and bulbous but they have a figurative quality. Both Ruby Silvious and Mimi Czajka Graminski reside in the Hudson Valley and are known for their 2 and 3 dimensional work.

Exhibit of Two -Artist & Poet- Collaborations

In "i am your red" I will be exhibiting work from my collaboration with poet Sarah Stern. Bibiana Huang Matheis and Poet Gold will also be showing their artist-poet collaboration in "you are my blue". Both shows are built around interests in color.

PAWLING, NY – 2015 marks the fifth year that artist/curator, Bibiana Huang Matheis has organized the “Meeting Past” exhibit at The Akin Library and Museums in Pawling. This year the curator has reached out to 95 artists for inclusion in the exhibit making this event one of the largest art exhibits in Dutchess County and indeed, in the Hudson Valley of New York.

Locating “Meeting Past” within historical and natural history collections may seem at odds with a plan to exhibit contemporary art. The building, an elegant late Victorian stone structure sited on Pawling’s Quaker Hill holds the Olive Gunnison Natural History Museum, Historical Society Museum, and the Akin Library.  Adding in contemporary artworks energizes the space and permanent collections with new meaning. A number of the artists will create a site specific artwork that appears to have been part of the collection, adding to the visitor’s experience of looking through all three floors of artifacts for the artworks. 

Artists include regional artists that exhibit internationally, as well as emerging artists, ranging from 5 years of age into to the 80s. The curator has thoughtfully guided the placement of the artworks, making each piece fit into the theme of the space by working closely with the artists.

These two pieces will be shown in the upstairs gallery at the Akin.  They are part of a series of new works created using mesh fabric.

There are visual threads that are visible and others that are more subtle. Contextual Threads interlaces four artists, from the visual connections to the underlying, less tangible ones. Each artist's inspiration and working method is different yet they share a sensibility, reflected in the use of organic materials, chroma and configurations.
